the wunderhund difference
We have a deep passion for our breed, the German Shepherd Dog. We are committed to developing a line of German Shepherd Dogs that realizes the breed's fullest potential, progressively, and consistently. We believe this commitment makes a positive difference in the dogs we breed-a difference those who purchase a puppy from us can appreciate year after year!
Our goal is to create a bloodline that consistently produces dogs with Pedigree, Power, and Beauty. By expertly blending genetic backgrounds, we are trying to minimize the occurrence of health and temperament problems sometimes associated with the German Shepherd Dog. At the same time, we are molding our working bloodline to best represent the outstanding temperament and structure outlined so specifically by Max vom Stephanitz over a hundred years ago.
Pedigree. Because so much of what a dog is is dependent on who he is, we start with the dog's pedigree. A truly great dog must have a pedigree that is solid across the board. Any unknown or weak links produce unpredictability in future breedings. A good pedigree alone, however, is not enough to ensure a proper breeding. A breeder must have the ability to understand what the pedigree is telling him about the dog's character. In addition, certain lines blend well with certain lines, but others can be disastrous.
Power Strength of character is of paramount importance to us. To create dogs of outstanding character, we select dogs with strong European working bloodlines. Function is never overlooked for form. We believe there is no compromise. We have seen the results of compromise and there is nothing "pretty" about it. If the dog cannot do the work representative of the breed or is unstable, he should not be bred. Period!
Beauty. Because a well-bred German Shepherd is also a dog of great beauty, we work within the above parameters to improve structure, choosing working lines that product V-rated in show and/or KK1 1 dogs. (Hip certification is a must.)
To ensure the success of our breeding program (and because they steal our hearts), we keep puppies back from most of our litters and raise them as part of our family. As the puppies mature, they are evaluated for their temperament as it pertains to Schutzhund, service work, and/or companionship. These outstanding young dogs are then sold or placed into service, sport, or pet homes. We find the time spent with these puppies an invaluable tool by which to judge our breeding program.
All our efforts translate to creating a dog that can enrich your life providing comfort, companionship, and service for many years.
worth waiting for
Our dogs are fed a custom diet consisting mainly of raw whole chicken, they are raised with love in a home environment, and kept in shape physically and mentally. We don't mass produce puppies. Each litter is carefully planned with specific criteria in mind. And each, we hope, makes a positive contribution both to the breed and to those who purchase a puppy from us.
Once born, our puppies receive excellent physical and emotional care. They are raised with an understanding of canine behavior and critical periods of a puppy's life. Our puppies are well socialized with people, dogs, and places. Every effort is made to ensure that their first home is as positive an environment as possible. We do our best to create an atmosphere conducive to learning and good social skills. We get to know each puppy individually and are expert in matching puppy to owner.
Worth the wait. Because we have a limited number of litters, we may not have a puppy available at the time of your inquiry. We believe we have a unique breeding program, producing exceptional German Shepherd Dogs for work and for home-one that is well worth waiting for. When you are making a 12-15 year commitment, waiting a few months is an easy decision to make.
